We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the latest US-Israeli attack upon the Islamic Republic of Iran – a criminal onslaught which has already massacred at least 85 Iranian school girls in Minab and murdered countless others around the country in less than 24 hours.
Iran has every right to defend itself through force in the face of such murderous provocation, and that right must be supported by all those who oppose the genocidal forces of Zionism and imperialism and believe in the right of nations to defend themselves against them.
Predictably, not only has Keir Starmer refused to condemn the US-Israel’s actions but instead condemned Iran’s allegedly “indiscriminate” response and mobilised British military assets to assist regional allies. Starmer has made it clear time and time again that there is no horror that Israel or the US can inflict that would lead him to give them anything other than his full support, and it is possible, even likely, that in the days and weeks ahead, Britain may become directly involved. Such an eventuality must be strongly opposed by all anti-war and progressive forces in Britain.
These attacks can only be understood as a part of a broader campaign that the US and its allies are waging across the globe against anyone who resists its imperialist hegemony. Whether through its ever-tightening siege of Cuba, the ongoing genocide in Gaza or its recent assault on Venezuela, American imperialists are determined to maintain their dominance by whatever means necessary, even if that means shredding the pretence of the legitimacy of its own international rules-based order in the process. All people of conscience must support the right of Iran to defend itself against this genocidal campaign and stand in implacable opposition to the designs of Zionism and imperialism in West Asia and beyond.
We call on all socialists, communists, and progressives in Britain to unite to defend the Iranian masses from Zionism and imperialism and demand an end to the attack on Iran.
