The Editorial Board extends our solidarity with Andreas Malm, whom the British state has barred from entering the country.

Malm was due to speak next week at an event organised by Tribune as well as the yearly Historical Materialism London Conference, but has now been refused entry by the Home Office.

The Home Office has given the spurious reason that his entry to the country “may not be considered to be conducive to the public good.” In reality, this is a government attack on free speech and academic freedom, fuelled by Malm’s support for the Palestinian people and opposition to our government’s support for the genocide in Gaza.

The continued use of such refusals of entry, seen also with the Home Office refusing streamer Hasan Piker entry to the country, reflects Burnham’s commitment to continued attacks on freedom and opposition to the movement for a free Palestine.

Prometheus Magazine and Ebb Books express our solidarity with Andreas Malm. We call for Andy Burnham and his government to reverse the decision and allow Malm into the country.
